weird art-spam

Dear Constant,

I just reviewed your website and I very much enjoyed your work,
particularly "Quoting the functional sculpture #1".

As an associate working for World Art Media (www.worldartmedia.com) I am
able to offer you the opportunity of presenting your work in the third
edition of the NY Arts Annual Catalog (www.nyartsmagazine.com).

The first edition was launched at the Miami Art Basel 2006 with impressive
reviews. Over 5000 print copies were distributed to the largest gathering
of international art buyers/galleries and artists.

The art community once again welcomed the second edition of this important
directory. Now an established publication, the NY Arts Annual Catalog
would like to offer you the chance to be considered for our 2008 edition.

This wonderful visual media resource- that lists over 1000 of the top
artists’, museums’ galleries’ and institutions’ web sites, is scheduled
for publication during late Fall 2008.

This publicity package costs only $600, for which you will receive a
1/3-page feature in the PRINT publication, which will be distributed
through Ubiquity, Source Interlink and Hudson News (at locations such as
Barnes and Noble and Universal News), as well as major fairs throughout
US, Europe and China.

The feature will also be online at www.nyartsmagazine.com, a high traffic
website with over 2 millions hits per month.

If you are interested in this project and would like to see a sample pdf
or know more I would be delighted to send you further details (deadline,
etc.).

I look forward to hearing from you.

All the best,

Margarita Castro

Robert Rauschenberg erased

the maker of one of my all time favorite works, the erased de Kooning

explained on youtube here

was erased from life yesterday at age 82

“Screwing things up is a virtue,” he said when he was 74. “Being correct is never the point... Being right can stop all the momentum of a very interesting idea.”

there is some contemporary remakes/tributes to the work on procurate.com

the best one here

here a wonderful picture of the back of the erased de kooning with color test in the pic.

which reminded me of the new work by Dafna Maimon, "the amateur body builder gradient"

everything is possible

If the fascism in the history of adidas passed you by, this scary as fuck commercial for the chinese olympics might also pass by as if it were normal. Wikipedia starts with adidas's history after 1949, the year the brand was officially founded, and "forgets" to mention the company produced army boots for the nazi's, and the shoes for the 1936 german olympics. I guess wikipedia's uber editors are getting free shoe's..

by the way, here is leni riefenstahl, probably the inspiration for the commercial in the arms of Siegfried and Roy at he 100th birthday. (she died in 2003)

a brief piece from adidas vs puma from http://urbanzipper.com/

The Dassler family (Adolf Dassler - Adi Das) company claimed world wide fame when world acclaimed athletes wore their shoes in the Olympics of 1936. The Michael Jordan of Track and Field Jesse Owens co-signed the shoes by rocking a pair during the 1936 Olympics. Embarrassed by Hitler's humiliation over African American Jesse Owens win over the Anglo-Saxon Germans in the Olympics, rumors have it that Rudi stated to friends that the shoes were not made for a black man to wear. Soon after, Adi and Rudi joined the “Fashion Fascists” by enrolling in the Nazi Party. Rudi went as far as to serve in the German Army during World War II leaving Adi to tend to family business. While Adi produced military boots for Nazi Soldiers, Rudi was dodging bullets at the frontline. However, the Dassler Family's luck ran out when the Allies seized control of Germany and Rudi was held captive in an American prisoner-of-war camp. American soldiers occupied and moved into the Dassler home. During the occupation, Adi formed a bond with the Americans and rumor has it that this was the pivotal time in life that made him change his ideology about fascism to liberty and freedom. As Adi was making new friends, Rudi's entrapment in a prison war camp was leaving a bitter taste in his mouth.

Rudi Dassler later founded Puma.

the people of psyop (agency behind the commercial) say nothing about the distinct similarities between there work and leni riefenstahl's beautifull movies. but keep on talking about the similarities between the commercial and the music video for "take on me" by aha...

The beaver trilogy

as a torrent "The beaver Trilogy" by Trent Harris, through the amazing greyloge.

Its a movie I saw twice on a film festival, one of the best movies I've ever seen. Since that screening I looked for the movie everywhere.

Just e few days ago I emailed Trent Harris and he will send me one of his screening copies personally, since there is appearantly nobody that handles the distribution for his films.

you can look at his website and I encourage to buy the real thing, instead of the torrent that just popped up, because this needs support.

from wikipedia;

The Beaver Trilogy (2001) is a documentary film directed by Trent Harris, featuring Sean Penn, Crispin Glover and co-starring Courtney Gains.

The Beaver Trilogy combines three separate vignettes that were filmed at different times--in 1979, 1981, and 1985. The first, entitled The Beaver Kid, is a short documentary about the exploits of Groovin' Gary, a performer that filmmaker Harris happened upon while filming for a Salt Lake City, Utah news station. Harris filmed Gary, a rabid Olivia Newton-John obsessive, as he staged a talent show that featured Gary dressed in full drag singing the Newton-John song "Please Don't Keep Me Waiting".

The second installment, called The Beaver Kid 2 features Sean Penn as "Groovin' Larry" in a dramatic interpretation of the original documentary. The trilogy is completed with The Orkly Kid, in which Crispin Glover reprises Penn's role.
